The city wants to locate commercial and service programs, housing and recreational activities on the site. Proposed programs should be temporary in their character. Housing will accommodate the temporary relocation of residents from the areas under development. All these programs should take advantage of the nearby highway city entrance. At the architectural level, all buildings facilitating activities such as concerts, fairs etc. should be organized as open-air temporary light structure.
Temporary activities are typically linked with suburban areas while they deal with both nature and urbanity. Our proposal for this site hinged on mediating the interaction of those territorial presences, specifically represented by the existing riverbank and the future city entrance from the motorway. The creation of the dock will provide the means of this encounter.
Our design embraces the tensions between the opposing elements contained on the site: the natural and the artificial, wilderness and urbanity, random voids and ordered voids, the organic and the grid, the mobility and the fixed. The dock that runs through the middle of the site represents a closing of the gap between these dichotomies. The project develops a process of constitution that can interact with the temporary activities that unwind on the site. The result is a hybridization of both of them. The co-existence of these fluxes, cycles and energies (water cycle along purifications pools, vegetation, topography, human occupation, events, artefacts ...) brought and developing in the area at their own pace, creates a dynamic landscape, like an ecosystem: the site is alive.
